Valenzuela City’s Barangay Coloong Heath Center topped all health centers in the National Capital Region (NCR) in Center for Health Development’s (CHD) Best Sanitation Practices Awards for the year 2011.

Coloong Health Center bested the nominees from seventeen (17) cities in NCR excelling in five (5) indicators set by the Department of Health that includes: coverage of households with sanitary toilet facilities, coverage of household with access to safe water supply, improvement in sanitary toilet coverage for the last three (3) years (2009-2011), Local Government Unit (LGU) Budget for Water and Sanitation projects and programs for the last two (2) years and local sanitation initiatives ( e.g. solid waste management, wastewater management, clean and green, legislative support and community participation).

“We, at the City Health Department want to thank Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian for giving his continuous support in the health services up to the barangay level. His support was really a major factor in winning this award since barangay health centers are now improved and still improving from infrastructure facilities, medical supplies, and livelihood projects up to sanitation concerns. Valenzuelanos can continue to expect more services this year,” said Dr. Joaquin Tamayo, City Health Sanitation Head.

Along with Dr. Tamayo were Dr. Michael Co, Health Physician of Coloong Health Center and Punong Barangay Willie Ramos who were present at the awarding ceremony to received the award that consists of a plaque and a cash prize of Php150,000.

“We are very happy that we made the Valenzuela City proud by winning this kind of award. We will use the monetary prize to fund the succeeding projects of the health center for the benefit of Barangay Coloong residents,” said PB Ramos.
