The Public Employment Service Office (PESO) pooled companies and agencies for the City Government’s first mini-job fair of the year, dubbed as “Bagong Taon, Bagong Trabaho,” which facilitated the employment opportunity for over 800 job-seekers who swarmed the grounds of Valenzuela City Auditorium and Convention Center today, January 18.

PESO Head, Ms. Luningning Martin, was enthused about the 84 successful applicants were hired on the spot. 991, on the other hand, were subjected to further interview.  “Majority of them were fresh graduates and skilled workers,” she added.

PESO constantly coordinates with big companies to ensure that the City Government’s aim of creating more jobs for the unemployed Valenzuelanos is being realized. True to its commitment to become “responsive to the employment needs” of the constituency, the office carefully matches and markets the skills and qualifications of the job-seekers to the requirements and standards of the potential employers.  Information dissemination is being coursed through several channels and institutions, like the barangays, socio-civic organizations, religious groups, schools, and the official website of the City.

Applicant Rose Coloban, 21, from Barangay Bignay shared, in Filipino, “Financial problem confronts my family these times that is why I took the chance to apply to help my family.  Jobs fair like this is a big help because we can apply at several companies in one venue.”

More than her personal drive to help other people, she said, “it is also Mayor WIN’s conviction to provide employment to Valenzuelanos because if you helped one person get employed, it means that you helped the entire family to lift themselves up away from poverty.”

The jobs fair is only the first to be held this year.  As part of the aim to make Valenzuela City the Number 1 manpower provider to partner employers, six Mega Jobs Fairs are scheduled to be held this year.  First of which will be held from February 13 to 14, as part of the celebration of Valenzuela City’s 14th Charter Day Anniversary.

The 25 partner companies which participated were: SM Appliance Center, SM Hypermarket – Valenzuela, SM Hypermarket – EDSA, SM Hypermarket – Eton, SM Homeworld, SM Department Store – Manila, SM Department Store – North EDSA, SM San Lazaro, Ace Hardware, Marks and Spencer, Watsons Personal Care, Max’s Group of Companies, San Miguel Brewery Inc., CDO Foodsphere Inc., Mang Inasal Philippines Inc., Rice In A Box Food Corp., Yosiko Industries Inc.,  Fompac Plastic Corporation, Lamitex Systems Inc., United Container, Suburbia Automotive Ventures Inc., NCO Philippines, Overseas Mayer, Asiawide Refreshment Corp., and Super Shopping Center Incorporated. 3 Agencies were also present: the Dynamics Personnel, Bettee Business Linkages, and Narcissus.
