Valenzuela City Health Department implements additional and specific actions to mitigate dengue in aim of protecting the health and welfare of the constituents amidst the prevailing increase in cases in the National Capital Region (NCR).

The Valenzuela City Task Force Against Dengue coordinates and implements all programs and measures to control the spread of the disease and is tasked to come up with the effective ways to ensure the success of anti-dengue drive in the city, particularly areas with high cases.

Through the city’s Anti-Dengue Program themed “Sa Sama-samang Pagkilos ng mga Valenzuelano, Dengue Matetepok!” a joint community effort shall be reinforced with the simultaneous clean-up drive on the communities, households and schools with the active partnership of homeowners, barangay and city officials, and the education sector.

City Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit’s Dengue 32nd Week Morbidity Report showed that as of August 13, 729 dengue cases have been admitted at different reporting institutions of the city, which ranks the City 4th in terms of number of cases, but only 8th in the change rate comparing the number of cases in the same period last year.  Furthermore, out of the 729 cases, 636 (87%) of which were classified as Suspected Cases, 74 (10%), as Probable Cases, and ONLY 19 (3%) were Confirmed Cases.

And if the data would be analyzed thoroughly, City Dengue Medical and Field Coordinator Dr. Irvin R. Miranda said that “the number of cases in the month of August, which is at 21 as of August 13, dropped compared to the number of cases in the month of July, which is at 95.  It is also much lower compared to the same month last year, which is at 368.”

This drop is credited to the efficiency of the Anti Dengue Program of the city, which involves regular simultaneous clean-up, space-spraying or misting, information dissemination campaign and environ-monitoring through the Oplan Sita, which helps the constituents be aware if their own yard could be a breeding ground to dengue mosquitos.
