Valenzuela City’s investments on education are now paying off as two brilliant students of Valenzuela City Science High School bagged the topmost award in the recently concluded 2011 S & T Quiz Bee held last July 29, 2011 at the SMX Convention Center, Pasay City.

Mikel Jason Allas, 4th year student, and Jewel Mikey Dominguez, 3rd year student each took home a medal, a trophy and PhP 20,000 cash prize. The said activity was sponsored by the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) through the Philippine Science High School System as part of the celebration of the 2011 National Science and Technology Week.

Twelve competitive High Schools both from Private, Public and Science High Schools all over the National Capital Region participated and competed for the most-desired award. ValSci students proved competency, passing the elimination round in the morning and competing for the final round in the afternoon.

The top 3 from the two sets of qualifiers aimed for the awards, but the ValSci Team, headed by teacher-coach Mrs. Merlyn M. Gamboa prevailed over them and grabbed the 1st place.

“Competitions like these gauge how our students fare with students from other schools, not only in the country but in the international field,” said Mr. Niel Aro, Principal of the Valenzuela City Science High School In a statement.

One of the participants, Mikael Jason Allas, previously won awards in individual and team categories at the Indonesia International Mathematics Competition held in Bali, Indonesia last July 18-23, 2011.

The coverage of the 2011 Science and Technology Quiz Bee focused on the fields of Research, Mathematics and Science and Technology.

The 2011 National S & T Week theme, “Nasa Siyensya ang Pag-asa,” provided the students of ValSci with much awareness on the importance of science and technology in the lives of the Filipinos as they viewed the various products of research and innovations exhibited in the ExpoScience Fair at the SMX Pasay City, from July 28-30, 2011.

Quezon City Science High School landed on 2nd place and Las Piñas National High School bagged the third place.

Valenzuela City Science High School is a public school established in 2003 to offer scientific and technological secondary education for Valenzuelanos. It welcomes all students with exceptional intelligence, of any background.  The school has a specialized range of subjects in Mathematics, Technology, Engineering, Science, and Language. Its logo depicts the perfection of human knowledge, making it more functional by putting it into its maximum potential.
