To commemorate the 151st Birth Anniversary of the nation’s hero, Dr. Pio Valenzuela, the City Government of Valenzuela highlights this year’s theme as a tribute to frontliners who bravely faced the battle against the coronavirus disease (COVID-19) pandemic – exemplifying the virtues of “Kabayanihan, Kalinga at Kahandaan.”

The traditional wreath laying ceremony marks a simple celebration as safety standards and protocols on mass gatherings are being observed while Metro Manila is still under General Community Quarantine (GCQ).

The event was also streamed virtually through Valenzuela City’s Facebook page to give Valenzuelanos a chance to join the ceremony on the comforts of their homes.

Dr. Pio Valenzuela, where the City got its name, is considered a nation’s hero also  known as an esteemed physician, a revolutionary leader, a  public servant and a key player in the Philippine revolution uprising. Dr. Pio also hails from Polo, Bulacan which is the present day Valenzuela City.

With this year’s theme as “Kabayanihan, Kalinga at Kahandaan,” the City Hall’s lobby boasts images of Valenzuela City’s frontliners represented as the modern day heroes – models of hope, resilience and unity of the entire city government force.

As Mayor REX declares, “A city that does know where it came from, will not know where it is going.” The City Government of Valenzuela always makes sure that the Valenzuelano heritage is etched to its history – with Dr. Pio’s contributions as the foundation of every Valenzuelano’s “anchors of identity” and an inspiration of hope while it faces the challenges brought by the COVID-19 pandemic.
