VC Cares Conducts Medical Mission in Brgy. Malanday
More than 2,500 indigent residents were given free medical consultations and medicines in a Medical Mission dubbed Operation Bigay Lunas 2008 conducted by Valenzuela City Special Projects Office, Mercury Drug Corporation personnel and the City Health Office yesterday at Dulong Lingahan, Malanday.
The humanitarian project was in line with the 63rd Anniversary of Mercury Drug. Special Projects Office Head, Ms. Dorothy Evangelista said, “We are proud to have Mercury Drug as a partner in achieving Mayor Gatchalian’s aim of providing accessible and quality health care services for the Valenzuelanos.”
Mercury Drug has been doing similar medical missions yearly since 1994. It is done simultaneously in over 600 branches throughout the country. “This is an activity that we look forward to each year. We are glad to be doing one this year in Brgy. Malanday,” Ms. Vena Chua, Mercury Drug-South Supermarket Manager said.
Medicines for fever, cold and flu, as well as antibiotics, were given. Residents were very grateful to Mercury Drug and to the City Government for the medical mission. “Medical consultations, as well as medicines are expensive these days. We are more than thankful to VC Cares, Mercury Drug and the volunteer doctors for reaching out to poor people like us,” Robert Yang, a teary-eyed resident said.
Welcoming the mission delegates are Cong. Rex T. Gatchalian, Barangay Kagawad Jojo Fernandez, Punong Barangay Fortunato Aravilla, Jr., City Chief of Staff Ms. Jing Hernandez and Mayor Sherwin T. Gatchalian who said, “projects like this uplift the spirit of the people. They usually ignore whatever illness they have due to poverty, but whenever there’s free consultation and medicines, they grab the opportunity and they are the first to line up.”
Other proud sponsors of the successful socio-civic activity were Fonterra (Anlene), United Laboratories, Nestlé Philippines and the 26 volunteer doctors.
