"Valenzuela City's 10th Charter Day Anniversary Celebration"
Mayor Sherwin T. Gatchalian led the celebration of 10 years of cityhood of Valenzuela on with this year's theme: “Innovation, Technology and Sustainable Development: A Decade of Continued Progress.”
On February 14th, 1998, Pres. Fidel V. Ramos signed RA 8526, an act passed by congress, as authored by late Cong. Antonio Serapio, classifying Valenzuela as a highly urbanized city.
This was ratified by the people through a plebiscite held on December 30, 1998, making the City of Valenzuela the 12th city of Metropolitan Manila and the 83rd city of the Republic of the Philippines.
Part of the celebration was the Taxpayers’ Night to commemorate a decade of the marriage of history and continued progress held yesterday night at Valenzuela City Convention Center featuring a Valentine Concert with one of the country’s premiere bands Side A.
“This is our way of showing that our loyal and honest taxpayers are part of the foundation of this city. Without them, the City Government cannot accomplish its goal for the city to become the vibrant center of commerce and industry in the north of NCR,” Mayor Gatchalian said.
The Mayor proudly announced in his speech that the city met its target tax collections, and now has a total income of 1.5 billion pesos. “Our growth rate is pegged at 13.86 percent. A double digit growth rate is astounding for any economy, whether local or national. And you all contributed to this phenomenal rise in our city’s income,” he added.
Because the City Government has sufficient funds, it has been able to implement necessary programs and projects to further boost the local economy.The Top Ten Taxpayers of the year for 2007 are the following:
