"Valenzuela City Post Double Digit Growth for 2007"

The City Government of Valenzuela posted a 13.86% growth in income in 2007, or a total of PhP 1.31 Billion, up by PhP 160 Million from the 2006 income of PhP 1.13 Billion. With the PhP 200 Million Special Education Fund or SEF, the City’s total income for 2007 hits a whopping PhP 1.5 Billion.

Valenzuela City Mayor Sherwin Gatchalian says the City Government has been consistently meeting target collections, posting double-digit growth since 2005. All this was accomplished even without an increase in tax rates of the City.

Gatchalian says, “This increase in income is attributable to efficient tax collection, as well as the overwhelming trust and confidence of the taxpayers on the City Government. We really are all grateful to our supportive taxpayers. I believe that they diligently pay their taxes because they see and feel where their taxes go. They see clean surroundings, much improved roads, new school buildings, and other infrastructures rising all over the city. There is no better motivation to pay taxes than knowing where your money is spent on.”

The staggering growth in income of the City is returned to the taxpayers in terms of equally efficient and effective services.

“Expenditures for 2008 will focus mostly on infrastructure developments to attract more investors to the City and further boost local economy. Likewise, education remains at the top of our priorities, along with health and social services,” the Mayor adds.

With the soaring income of the City, Gatchalian is optimistic that they will hit the 2 Billion mark in a couple of years. “We just have to keep up aggressive tax collection efforts, continue fighting against corruption and work really hard to maintain and even improve the services we are providing to the public, and the City’s income will surely go up or even exceed 2 Billion in the coming year,” he concludes.
