Aerobics enthusiasts in the city are now more inspired and empowered to promote a healthy lifestyle after the League of Cities of the Philippines (LCP) hailed Valenzuela as the “Aerobics Capital of the Philippines.

Hundreds of members of Aerobics League of Valenzuela City and Concerned Citizens Alliance of Valenzuela City, Inc. held a mass aerobics dubbed as “Super May Aero Festival” last May 1 at Puregold Parking Area in Barangay Dalandanan, to warmly accept and celebrate the proclamation, which is substantiated by LCP Resolution No. 2012-001, Series of 2012.

Mayor WIN Gatchalian, LCP Vice President for National Capital Region (NCR), was thankful that his health advocacy yielded another milestone when majority votes from different chief executives poured during their General Assembly.

In an interview, Jeremy Nishimori, Executive Director of LCP, mentioned that Mayor WIN's full support of the endorsement and the people's overwhelming dedication to attain this prestigious achievement were the key factors that convinced the league to give their nod of approval.

Mayor WIN’s health stance considers the urban lifestyle which is saturated with several unhealthy temptations. He stressed that, “aerobics unleashes a crucial role in mitigating cardiac-related problems, most especially to those who may have failed to integrate exercise in their daily sedentary routines.”

Aerobics offers several health benefits. It helps improve memory and can make a person feel more alert. It also helps the body and mind to cope with emotional and psychological stress. Cardiac exercise helps to lower blood pressure and improves heart function and blood circulation.  Also a pulmonary exercise, the efficient use of oxygen in this activity increases body fat burning mechanism which aids weight loss.

Over 40 aerobics clubs are currently active in Valenzuela City. Each conducts regular aero-dance sessions in their assigned barangays. Although it is widely participated in by women, the program is actually designed for people across all gender and ages.

Professor Barr Samson, Senior Consultant of Aerobics League of Valenzuela City, proudly announced during the program, “Mula sa araw na ito, alam na ng buong mundo na ang Valenzuela City ang Kabisera ng Aerobics sa buong bansa.” He also shared a trivia that there is no other place on earth that holds the same title of being an aerobics capital.

First District Councilor Cora Cortez and Cultural and Tourism Affairs Officer Barcelito De Sotto formally accepted in behalf of Valenzuela City the Certificate of Proclamation from the League of Cities of the Philippines.
