Some 40,580 worktexts were distributed for free to 8,116 enrolled daycare children in the city to nurture learning as part of the WIN ang Edukasyon Program as carried over by Mayor REX Gatchalian.

With an allocated budget of PhP 5.5 million through the City Social Welfare and Development Office’s (CSWDO) Early Childhood Care and Development (ECCD) Program, the worktexts cover five subjects: Language, Mathematics, Reading and Writing, Health and Science, and Look and See.  Free t-shirts, instructional materials and educational toys were also included in the budget.

These free educational materials play an integral part in enhancing basic skills of daycare students.  According to ECCD Program Manager, Ms. Sonia Martin, these worktexts enhance the cognitive, spatial, locomotor and counting skills that are essential to a child’s growth and development.

Parents feel that the local government is very much concerned about their well-being because of the continuous support in attending their needs.  “Mula sa pagkain hanggang sa mga gamit nila, todo-suporta talaga. Malaking tulong po talaga ito sa mga bata kaya lubos talaga kaming nagpapasalamat. (From food to their school supplies, the [city government] is very supportive. This is such a huge help to the kids and for that we are thankful.)” Mrs. Myrna Salas, a mother of a daycare student in Barangay Malinta said.

Mayor REX said during the distribution of worktexts with CSWDO Officer-in-Charge, Ms. Dorothy Evangelista last Wednesday, July 24 at Kiwanis Daycare Center, Barangay Marulas, that there are more projects specifically for daycare children, such as the upcoming feeding program to be launched in August which will provide healthy and nutritious meal for every student.
