Valenzuelanos had a better appreciation of Dr. Pio Valenzuela’s 144th birthday anniversary celebration today, July 11, through historical information dissemination and jobs fair activities dubbed as, “Kadakilaan, Kabayanihan, Katapatan: Alay sa Bayan at sa Mamayan.”
A wreath-laying ceremony at the Triumvirate monument attended by various organizations in the city began the day-long activities. Mayor REX Gatchalian shared during the event that “these modern times, revolutionary background is no longer necessary to ignite heroism in every individual. An ordinary city hall employee can make himself a hero to others by simply performing his duties, with due diligence and integrity.”
Cultural Affairs and Tourism Development Office (CATDO)organized a memorial lecture at Museo Valenzuela and an exhibit about the life of Dr. Pio Valenzuela at SM Valenzuela to show thoughtful value of his influence. The lecture of Professor Edgardo Valenzuela, Dr. Pio Valenzuela’s kin, was anchored on the “Reflection on Leadership, Ethics, and Good Governance for Nation-Building” to promote the relevance of patriotism and moral consciousness toward national growth.
“Recognize emerging changes. Take decisive actions aimed at making the present situation a better one than the option at stake,” said Valenzuela, a professor at the Ateneo de Manila School of Government.
“Become leaders that can generate a value taken into goodwill. These are the important qualities for a leader directed at molding a nation,” he added.
Meanwhile, 47 companies, including eight overseas recruitment agencies, participated in the jobs fair organized by Public Employment Services Office (PESO).
The Bureau of Internal Revenue (BIR), National Bureau of Investigation (NBI), the National Statistics Office (NSO) and PhilHealth also set up booths at the job fair to process applicants’ documentary requirements.
PESO Manager Luningning Martin said the job fair attracted around 1000 applicants. A thousand qualified for further interview, while 138 were hired on the spot, said Martin.
