The coalition led by incumbent Valenzuela City Chief Executive and now First District Representative-elect, Mayor Sherwin T. Gatchalian, ruled the recently concluded local polls, seizing nine out of the 12 council seats for the two districts, the vice mayoralty seat, the congressional seat of the 1st district and the mayoralty seat.

Although only 312 out of 318, or 98%, of the clustered precincts were officially canvassed, Commission on Elections (Comelec) issued Resolution No. 9700, allowing city Boards of Canvassers (BOCs) to proclaim winning candidates even if the consolidated canvassing system (CCS) has not yet received all results, provided that the standing of the candidates will not be affected by the results not yet transmitted.

Mayor WIN (NPC/Tayo Na, Valenzuela) left behind his opponent, Councilor Ritche Cuadra (LAKAS), through a giant leap of 44,109 votes with final vote count of 67,540-23,431.

Incumbent Vice Mayor Eric M. Martinez (LP/Tayo Na, Valenzuela) secured his third term through laps away gap from his closest contender, Councilor Khay Pineda with the final vote count of 113,327-82,269.

Meanwhile, incumbent Representative, Cong. Magtanggol “Magi” Gunigundo I won the congressional seat of the second district with a slim margin of 3,147 against Former Councilor Shalani Soledad-Romulo in the final results of 57,430-54,283 votes.

First District Representative and Mayor-elect, Cong. REX Gatchalian, on the other hand, garnered a total of 144,667 votes, bringing his opponent, Adel Gunigundo, on all fours with only 58,970 votes.

Winning the council seats are:

Espiritu, Tony (NPC/Tayo Na, Valenzuela) – 59,766

Pineda, Charee (NPC/Tayo Na, Valenzuela) - 59,062
Esteban, Lotlot (LAKAS) - 56,879
Sy, Tyson (UNA) - 53,980

As Mayor WIN mentioned when he filed his candidacy, he ran for congress to serve both the local and national governments, and to safeguard the longevity of his proven and tested programs for the local constituents.  When asked what programs he would push forth once he took office, the outgoing mayor answered, “Metro Manila needs programs on housing and solutions to flooding.  I think the people need someone to champion those issues to congress.”

Incoming Mayor-elect, Cong. REX Gatchalian, on the other hand, thanked the Valenzuelanos for not believing on the negative things thrown against Tayo Na, Valenzuela coalition.

Healthcare shall be his focus.  “Lalo pa nating aayusin ang mga Barangay Health Centers, mga health workers, at i-improve ang bago nating tayong ospital. (We will make our barangay health centers even better and will pay attention on developing our Barangay Health Workers.  We will also make more improvements on our new hospital.)” He said.

He said there should be no incidence of death due to giving birth and malnutrition because these problems should only to be heard of in remote areas, and not in progressive cities like Valenzuela. “Sa tatlong taon, kaya nating sabihin na walang mamatay dahil lamang sa kakulangan sa salapi upang ipagamot ang kanyang sarili.  (In three years, we can assure that nobody would die just because he lacks money for his health.)” He assured.
