Summer is bound to be more productive for nearly 5,000 incoming Grade 2 and Grade 5 students as the City Government of Valenzuela kicks off one of its biggest grassroot sports activity, the Street Soccer Season 2 at the Valenzuela City People’s Park Amphitheater, March 24, 2018, Saturday.

Launched last year in collaboration with the Division of City Schools of Valenzuela, the street soccer league in the city aims not only to enhance the sports skills of the young athletes, but also to boost their morale and instill to them the values of camaraderie and sportsmanship. Likewise, it also provides them an avenue to form a recreational activity with their parents.

Laos Football Club, a professional Filipino association football club based in Tacloban, Leyte is geared to spearhead the 12-day training of young Valenzuelano athletes. “We endeavor to make the students pro-sports. We would like them to enjoy the game while also learning how to interact with other people”, Street Soccer Action Officer and 1st district Councilor Rovin Feliciano said during the kick-off rally.

Feliciano also revealed that the 20-man Valenzuela City Elite Soccer Team is poised to compete in August for the Gothia Cup China 2018, one of the premier youth world cup competition. This year, Valenzuela City has committed two teams composed of players under 11 years of age and under 12 years of age.

The kick-off rally was highlighted by the lighting of torch for the North, East, West and South district school participants.
