A first-of-its-kind pupil’s park is inaugurated in Malinta Elementary School on August 1 to provide an additional breathing and study space for public grade school learners.

City Mayor REX Gatchalian, together with DepED Valenzuela Schools Division Superintendent Meliton Zurbano, and other school officials, led the inauguration and blessing ceremonies of the new “Malinta Elementary School Pupils’ Park for Learning.”

In his speech, Mayor REX said the park was the first of its kind in the city. “This kind of park enhances the overall learning experience of the students inside the school,” he added.

The park has 14 wooden tables under sheds surrounded by patches of greens, where students can stay during their free hours to do to their academic requirements or simply have a good time with their fellow students.

Mayor REX said, “It is not about classrooms anymore, it is now about inspiring students to learn outside the four walls of the classroom.”

The pupil’s park is the brainchild of Dr. Fe Padrinao, the outgoing principal of Malinta Elementary School. The local chief executive thanked her for her “brilliant idea that the local government is willing to replicate in other schools.”

Mayor REX encouraged other city public schools to aim for the same so that more open spaces or quadrangles could also be converted to in-school mini parks.

On February 11, Valenzuela City was hailed as one of the 14 National Local Government Unit Eco Champions during the first Philippine Environment Summit, as the city had been fostering liveability by developing green spaces such as pocket community parks and the 1.3-hectare Valenzuela City Park.
