As part of the upcoming Dr. Pio Valenzuela Day, nominations for the 2009 Gawad Pio Valenzuela are now open to honor outstanding Valenzuelanos in various fields of discipline and expertise. Gawad Pio Valenzuela recognizes exemplary achievement in the areas of government service, community service, education, science and technology, journalism, business, sports, and the visual and performing arts. It also cites outstanding families, professionals and youths who have made their mark in their contributions to the community.
Past awardees include Dr. Pablo Santiago, Cirio Santiago, Anita Linda and Gary Granada for the visual and performing arts; Judge Benjamin Aquino and Brig. Gen. Eusebio Ramos for government service; Benita de Leon and Bienvenido Queyquep for community service; Jerry Gracio and Ibarra Samson for journalism and literature; Porfirio Rodriguez and Gil Falcon Gacer for science and technology; Jimboy Marcelo, Angelo Que and Tyson Sy for sports; Adelia Demetillo and Vernancio Delica for education; and James K. Tan and William T. Gatchalian for business and economics.
Interested parties can download the nomination form at the bottom of this page and submit to the Cultural Affairs Office, 1/F Executive Office, City Government of Valenzuela, McArthur Highway, Barangay Karuhatan, Valenzuela City. Deadline of submission of nominations is on June 30, 2009.
Awarding ceremonies are scheduled on Dr. Pio Valenzuela Day, July 11, 2009 at the Valenzuela City Center for the Performing Arts Theater.
- Must be born in Valenzuela City and/or Must have resided in Valenzuela City for at least five (5) years;
- Presently doing business/profession for the benefit of the people of Valenzuela;
- Must have consistency of achievement with the ideals of Dr. Pio Valenzuela;
- Nominee has not been charged with nor convicted or any crime involving moral turpitude.
