As part of its 67thAnniversary Celebration, Mercury Drug Corporation, in cooperation with the Valenzuela City Health Department (CHD), the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWD) and the Gender and Development Council (GAD), conducted today its annual medical mission dubbed “Operation Bigay Lunas: Libreng Gamutan“ at the covered court of Northville 1B in Barangay Punturin.

It is an opportunity for Mercury Drug to give back to the community by providing free medical check-ups and medicine to people living in poverty from all over the country every March 1. This is their way of showing their gratitude to their fellow Filipinos for making Mercury Drug the leading pharmacy in the country.

Beneficiaries invited into the event were attended by volunteer medical teams from CHD for free consultations, blood-pressure screening and medicines, among other services.  They were assisted by the staff of Valenzuela City 1stDistrict Representative Cong. REX Gatchalian as well as interns from the University of Santo Tomas and Our Lady of Fatima University.

A mother of two, 37-year old Pamela Orosa, says that the medical mission is of great benefit for poor people like her, “Sana ipagpatuloy nila ang ganitong gawain lalo na ngayon na marami ang nagkakasakit.  (I hope that they continue this activity to help the poor because many people get sick nowadays.)” She said.  She is among the more than 2,500 people who went to the venue to avail themselves of free medical services provided by Mercury Drug and its partners.

The medical mission serves as a kick-off of the activities lined up for the city's celebration of the Women's Month this March.
