Valenzuela City once again reaps the fruit of its programs in education, topping the National Achievement Test (NAT) at the Elementary level in the National Capital Region (NCR) held last March.

Administered annually by the Department of Education (DepEd) through the National Education Testing and Research Center (NETRC) since it was established in 1997, the NAT aims to determine the achievement levels of grade 6 students.  Among the academic subjects covered by NAT are English, Mathematics, Science, Filipino and Heograpiya, Kultura at Sibika (HKS).

“The City Government puts premium on high quality education. This is the result of having fine educators in the city who have undergone various trainings and seminars through WIN ang Edukasyon program,” City Mayor Sherwin T. Gatchalian said.

The WIN ang Edukasyon Program, a pet project of Mayor WIN established in partnership with Synergeia Foundation to oversee the development and improvement of the education system in the city through conceptualization and implementation of various education projects and programs.  The basic concept of the program is to focus on the inadvertently overlooked areas of education, not just the issues with regard to students but also on the critical role of teachers and parents, as well.

Through the program, English and Mathematics worktexts were developed with DepEd Valenzuela and are now being distributed for free to public elementary students at all grade levels.

Notebooks, class records, lesson planners are also being distributed for free to Valenzuelano students and teachers.

New classrooms and other education facilities are continually being built to reduce the student-to-classroom ratio to the ideal 45:1 for elementary schools and 50:1 for secondary schools.  Valenzuela City currently has a ratio of 48:1 for elementary schools and 54:1 for secondary schools.  The City fares relatively better compared to the average 85:1 ratio in the entire National Capital Region (NCR).
