In observation of the 22nd National Arts Month, Valenzuela City celebrated Valenzuelano artistry through a festivity held last February 14, 2013 at the Museo Valenzuela.
Themed Ani ng Sining sa Lungsod ng Valenzuela, the event was also carried out in conjunction with the city’s 15th Charter Day commemoration.
As part of the city’s support to the cultural thrust of the national government, it aimed at giving recognition to the exceptional abilities and accomplishments of Valenzuelanos in the field of culture and the arts.
According to Mayor Sherwin T. Gatchalian, developing education, culture and the arts in Valenzuela is part of the city’s advancement of good governance, with programs that support the arts, such as, Valenzuela City Violin Ensemble, Valenzuela City Center for the Performing Arts (VCCPA) and the annual Summer Arts Workshop, to name a few.
This also includes the local government’s continuous patronage of cultural works and projects by Museo Valenzuela Foundation under the supervision of Msgr. Mar DJ Arenas.
Joining the occasion to showcase their artistic abilities were: Gary Granada, Former Chairman of Komisyon sa Wikang Filipino, Mr. Jose Laderas Santos, V.P. Trinidad National High School’s Indak Maharlika Ensemble, Our Lady of Fatima Chorale, Valenzuela City Chorale, Valenzuela City Violin Ensemble and VCCPA, performing an impressive excerpt of their play “Madlang-Away,” which climaxed to segue to the “Valenzuela: Kahapon, Ngayon at Bukas,” mural project which is a collaborative creative efforts of students from the high schools of Canumay, Lawang Bato, Bagbaguin and Dalandanan.
Also present were Msgr. Mar DJ Arenas who led the prayer, City Cultural Affairs and Development Office (CATDO) Officer-in-Charge, Ahna F. Mejia, 2nd District Councilor Shalani Soledad-Romulo, City Mayor WIN Gatchalian and Guest of Honor, National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) Executive Director Emelita V. Almosara
Museo Valenzuela Curator, Jonathan Balsamo said that a plan I underway to make the activity a regular event in the city even beyond the National Arts Month.
