To realize the city government’s long-term goal in making Valenzuela a smart digital city, a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) has been signed by Mayor REX Gatchalian and the representatives of Converge ICT Solutions, Inc. for the installation of underground fiber optic cables that would remarkably improve the city’s internet connection speed.

Aside from improving internet connection speed, the project also aims to interconnect all information technology services like the Closed Circuit TV (CCTV) system, Wireless Connection (WiFi), and local telephone connection lines. This would expedite the transfer of information between government offices, thereby, improving their services.

The upgrade would incur no cost to the LGU and includes communication systems in local government offices such as hospitals, 3S Centers and public schools.  Cable installation was already underway and would be accomplished by February 2018.

Fiber optic cables can transmit large amounts of data and provide higher bandwidth over longer distances.  Unlike copper cables, it can be placed alongside utility and electrical lines.
